AMD Radeon RX 550X Mobile Review 2023

The AMD Radeon RX 550X is a budget-friendly graphics card built for mobility. It’s the ideal choice if you want to upgrade your mobile device with a discrete GPU but don’t want to break the bank. While it’s not as capable as higher-end cards such as the RX 560 or 570, it still offers enough performance for most users.

Specs of AMD Radeon RX 550X

The Radeon RX 550X mobile GPU is an integrated video card that includes all of the AMD Radeon RX 550 desktop PC graphics card capabilities. It has 768 CUDA cores, 8GB GDDR5 memory (graphics memory), and a 256-bit memory interface.

The clock speed for this graphic processor is 1,300 MHz on both its base frequency and boost frequency. This means it can run at up to 1 GHz when needed to drive high-quality visuals or 3 GHz when running less demanding games or programs such as office applications or browser tabs open on multiple windows simultaneously while you’re waiting for them all open at once—which isn’t something we recommend doing with your computer anyway!

Features of Radeon RX 550X

  • Radeon RX 550X is a budget graphics card.
  • It’s also a mobile graphics card.
  • And it’s also mid-range but not quite as high-end as the RX 570 (which you can read about in our review).

Setup & Configuration

The setup and configuration process of the Radeon RX 550X is simple. You can configure your graphics card in the BIOS, Windows Control Panel, or AMD Catalyst Control Center. The Radeon RX 550X does not support multi-GPU configurations and only supports one-card dual-channel memory configurations; however, it has an M.2 slot for an expansion card compatible with Intel’s X299 platform (the processor socket used by this GPU).

Displays

The Radeon RX 550X mobile GPU supports up to four displays and can drive up to 60Hz in this configuration. This is great news for gamers who want to run their games at higher resolutions or refresh rates on their laptops or computers.

The biggest limitation is that the display must be HDMI 2.0 compatible, which means you’ll have no luck if your laptop doesn’t have an option for this type of connection (like many laptops released before 2016).

Performance

The Radeon RX 550X Mobile is a good performer, performing better than the regular Radeon RX 550 and the Radeon RX 560. It’s also superior to both cards in terms of power consumption.

Getting 4GB of RAM here means you should have no problems running games at 1080p resolution with medium-quality settings at 60fps on most modern titles (with some exceptions). Suppose you’re looking for even higher frame rates. In that case, however, we recommend upgrading your system with a more powerful graphics card such as an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Ti or RTX 2080 Ti instead—they’ll be able to provide much better performance due to their higher clock speeds and more advanced architecture.

Price

The Radeon RX 550X Mobile is currently available for $149.99, the Radeon RX 570 Mobile goes for $179.99, and the Radeon RX 580 Mobile costs $199.99. You can also find it at Newegg, Amazon, and Best Buy (in stock).

The price of the AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 mobile card is not known yet, but we expect it to be less than the other two models mentioned above, so you won’t have much trouble paying over $200 if you want one on your smartphone or tablet PC!

Should you give it a try?

If you want a mobile GPU for gaming, then yes. The Radeon RX 550X is powerful enough to play games at 1080p resolution on medium settings at 60 FPS. It can handle higher resolutions if your game supports it, but this will drain its battery faster and make it harder to maintain 60 FPS in the long run.

If you’re interested in video editing or productivity apps like Google Docs or Microsoft Office 365, then no (at least not yet), the Radeon 550X has only 1GB of GDDR5 RAM compared to 2GB on competing video cards such as the GeForce RTX 2060 Mobile 6GB OC Edition or even 8GB GDDR5 RAM inside some high-end laptops like the AMD Ryzen 7 2700U with Vega 11 graphics chip inside it—but there’s nothing wrong with being conservative when considering how much power consumption goes into running these applications…unless they’re demanding enough that they require more than 2GB per core!

Power Consumption

The power consumption of the Radeon RX 550X is on the low end, so it should have no trouble running most games at full speed. If you’re playing an older game that isn’t optimized for Ryzen CPUs and GPUs, your system will use more power than usual.

There may be better options than this if you’re looking for a mobile graphics card with high performance and low power consumption.
